Mr. President,
The recent events in Syria will be written in the pages of contemporary history as one of the most bitter events. The question: what has been the crime of the innocent Syrians will remain unanswered for the future generations. The terrible human tragedy has not ended in Syria and unfortunately we are seeing some extremist and zealot leaders issuing strange fatwas (religious decrees) pushing human dignity to edge of the cliff. Sadly, by issuing fatwas, the Salafi leaders who spread violent and illogical Islam, have called women in the Islamic world to volunteer for “Sexual Jihad” for strengthening the spirits of the jihadist rebels in Syria. According to these fatwas, these extremist leaders want Muslim girls and women to temporarily marry the rebel fighters in Syria to fulfill their sexual desires and go to heaven.
This religious decree is completely contrary to all international laws, and in a way is sexual slavery in a religious cloak and a start for backtracking, and humiliation of the human dignity of women, and their use as tools and objects.

Mr. President,
The preservation and protection of human dignity is vital for all of mankind especially women. This is one of the most fundamental of human rights principles. Sexual jihad results in the dishonouring of women and the breaking up of families, and furthermore it damages the image of Divine religions; and will only result in sewing the seeds of resentment and enmity. And silence towards these forms of human rights violations will become interludes for further bitter and ugly events to occur.
As a nongovernmental organization active in humanitarian activities we call upon the Council to while condemning the abuse of religious beliefs and immoral and inhuman acts that are taking place, to seriously act upon them. We also ask the investigation commission on human rights violations in Syria to pay special attention to these grave human rights violations by the rebel forces in Syria, and to show that justice in the application of human rights does not get influenced by politics.
