Our Statement in 24th Session of UN Human Rights Council

Violation of Children's Rights from Sanctions against Iran

Should this Convention just be seen as an agreement with no credibility, or will the UN with its worthy accomplishments intervene and defend the contents of the Convention?

Mr. President,
According to Article 24(2a) of the Convention on the Rights of Child, State Parties must "ensure the provision of necessary medical assistance and health care to all children with emphasis on the development of primary health care;"
In view of the imposition of harsh sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, most drugs companies are in practice refusing sales of drugs and supplements and medical equipment needed for Iranian children. This must be asked< why haven't supplements and medicines needed by children been considered in the irresponsible sanctions imposed on the Iran? And what is to be the fate of children in need of medicines?
A few weeks ago the United States officially announced that medicines and medicinal equipment have been removed from the list of sanctions, but it knows full well that due to Iranians' inaccessibility to the three main international banking systems: Federal Wire, Clearing House Interbank Payments System, and SWIFT, in practice have put so many obstacles in the way of Iranian banking transactions that any possibility of financial transactions between Iran and drugs companies are impossible.

Mr. President,
Should this Convention just be seen as an agreement with no credibility, or will the UN with its worthy accomplishments intervene and defend the contents of the Convention?
As a nongovernmental organization active in humanitarian activities draw the attention of the Council to the blatant violation of children and juveniles' rights, and would like the Council to seriously put an end to the blatant violation if international laws.
