Mr. President,
Economic imposed on Iran include Iranian banking and the banning of their financial transactions have had unpleasant effects on their trade deals the direct effects of which on the daily living of the Iranian people is very real and evident, particularly on the health of the people; because one of the most damaging effects have been the imports of drugs and medicines into the country.
Thus due to Iran and Iranian banks being in the international economic and trade blacklist, many drug manufacturers refrain from selling to Iran, and or in the event of a transaction agreement with the importers of drugs into Iran, in practice the inability to make payments prevent the drugs from being sent to Iran.
Mr. President,
The imposition of economic sanctions directly target the living and health of individuals. The difficulty in the provision of medicines and their prices, particularly over the last 2 years and the supply of needed drugs for special diseases such as cancer or leukemia have escalated and resulted in death or loss of organs.
What we, as a nongovernmental organization active in humanitarian activities want is the attention of the international community, the Human Rights Council, the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee towards the unpleasant and destructive effects of the imposed sanctions, particularly the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States of America and the European Union on the lives of ordinary Iranian citizens.
We ask the Council to through the removal and reduction of these types of sanctions, to help Iranian women, children, senior citizens and the sick to enjoy their right to health and medical care.
